Uncharted 4 IRL

So the Freakin Rad Team got together this last month, concepted out and shot a short inspired by the gameplay of Uncharted. It was a crazy process!

The flow and cinematic style Uncharted is pretty amazing, especially as we started seeing things coming out for the newest release of "A Thief's End." But what works in a video game, and in a completely CG environment, can be pretty hard to replicate in a live action setting.

To solve this we decided that a one take video shot from a 3rd person perspective could only be accomplished if we had the right tools for the job. So armed with a DJI Inspire 1 and a whole lot of gumption, we set out to the desert and got our game on.

It's a huge goal of ours here at Freakin Rad, to create videos that are cinematic, but remain true to life to the sources that inspire them. As the comments have come in from other gamers it seems we may have been able to reach that goal, and that is incredibly fulfilling to us as a team. If you haven't seen it yet check out the full video!

Captain America : Civil Boards

It was a non stop adrenaline thrill ride of epic proportions - or at least a really hot fast paced day of film up Provo Canyon in Utah.  Freakin Rad teamed up with riders from the board company Jase Boards to see what would happen if Ironman and Captain America decided to let their contest of opinions be settled on a downhill race to the end!

(Spoiler) Don't worry... Spiderman steps in to solve the problem.

Freakin VR

So we recently published our first (hopefully of many soon to come) 360 video to Youtube! It's been a long production and a lot of work went into the creation of the film.

We had the chance to work with a prototype of the Nokia OZO camera, and overall had a fantastic experience. Although there we a number of incredible constants during production and post production, it was an rad ride the whole time. Check out the behind the scenes as well.

I honestly believe that VR is opening a whole new mode of storytelling, a communicative shared experience. Naturally VR demands interaction, and moving forward Freakin Rad aims to conceive and create a vast number of interactive stories for virtual spaces. In a way telling VR stories is like gamifying cinema, so you might say already that we're a pretty decent fit already.

Halo vs Destiny

It's been a few months, and our video Halo vs Destiny still stands as one of our favorite experiences yet! It was the first video launched as a new team and hit over 1 million views within a few weeks.

Time has passed a little, but we recently uploaded the behind the scenes on our newly launched "Behind the Rad" channel, and it's live to go and check out.

Behind the Rad

A little over a month ago we decided it was high time we shared every little thing about our lives with the public! It's not like facebook, apple and google don't know everything about us anyways right? No, but actually we wanted to tell our story, the "Freakin Rad" story, and make an honest account of what we are up to every day in attempt to make the best Youtube channel possible.

To check out behind the scenes at what we're up to here at Freakin Rad go to our new "BEHIND THE RAD" channel on Youtube!

We have a few episodes up already. This first one chronicles how we got started, the pain and struggles we had early on, and the joys we've had in the last 8 months.

Then we dove into showcasing how we made the "Rise of the Tomb Raider Live Action Trailer." And most recently we documented some cool events we attended, CVX, SLCC FanX and visiting "The VOID." It's been a pretty rad experience so far!
